The Big 3-0!!

Friday, July 25th, 2008

So the official day of the 30th Birthday has come and gone and I feel no different for its passing :)  People were asking me if I was dreading this birthday and how it feels to be 30.  I’m not really sure what “30″ even means other than the # of years I’ve been alive.  To me, it’s just another # and a sign of me growing older (definitely) and wiser (hopefully).  As I look back on the years I can remember, I think that this 30 thing is pretty good.  I have a nice home, great family and friends a wonderful hubby, well-behaved and cuddly dog and the smartest, cutest daughter I could have ever hoped for.  I wouldn’t trade being 30 for being in high school again, being in my 20s and in college or even my mid-20s.  I am happy in my own skin and love my life - I think those are great things no matter what your age :)

For my birthday party we were supposed to have a groovy shindig featuring a disco theme (gotta love the late 70s!) at our house BUT I came down with the flu a few days before the party and didn’t quite feel up to playing the hostess to 25 people so, we cancelled it and ended up having dinner at my parent’s house a couple of days later.

Partly because I am a fun person :), partly because I like to torture my family and partly because I am practical (I HAD already purchased costumes and decor for a disco party) I still made everyone dress up for dinner - Hee Hee.  And partly because they wanted to humor me since I am getting older ;) and partly because they too are fun people, they agreed!  We had lots of yummy food and laughs at each others’ expense due to the ridiculousness of the costumes.  I hope you enjoy these pics….. and remember:

Sea World Trip

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Well…the all-star break has come and gone and even though it got off to a rough start for Matt (he was delayed leaving Philadelphia and missed his connection from Phoenix and San Diego!) we ended up having a relaxing, if not sun-burned couple of days :)

Braelyn is somewhat of an animal addict and she LOVES anything that lives in the ocean.  Jan and Bob gave her a magnet set for her birthday that is one of her favorite toys and she ALWAYS want to do the sea animals set so, needless to say, she knows all kinds of ocean animals, their names and what they eat!  A trip to Sea World was definitely something we HAD to do during the break.  We had a great time at the Shamu, Dolphin and Pets Rule show, as well as the looking at all of the animal exhibits.  It wasn’t too crowded and the animals were pretty active so we got some great close up views.

Mind you, Braelyn knows the names of, not just the normal animals like dolphins and seals, but she also recognized the manatees, sea stars, beluga whales, orcas and sea otters.  I guess we have Go Diego Go! to thank for all of her animal knowledge.

Braelyn was funny because she thought that Sea World was its own city or state!  When we left Tom and Sheri’s house she said “we’re leaving San Diego now” and when we pulled up in front of their house after our all-day trip, she said “we’re back in San Diego Mommy!”  We had a great time with family and we are thankful for the time we were able to spend away from the field and look forward to going back to SD at the end of August.
